This issues occured after the Mac OS system upgrade (mac os. Torrent downloading works fine, If i download and open the torrent though.

So far I could download torrents easily with qBittorent but now when I click on a magnet link, a new window opens saying 'the link needs to be opened with an application. Just installed the newest version of qbittorent v3.0.9 . qbittorrent no longer adds magnet links when clicked on. The box for 'use qbittorrent for magnet links' is checked as it was it was in my previous version of the software. No other settings have been changed since the upgrade. I am on Windows 7, if that makes any difference. When I click on a magnet link on any page such as TPB, nothing happens. In the past, when clicking on a magnet link, the link was automatically added to the abittorrent queue.

What browser do you use? Does the browser normally ask you which program should handle the magnet links?

commented Mar 25, 2013

Google Chrome 26.0.1410.40 beta-m

I haven't changed any Browser settings for magnet links since the
installation of the newest qbittorrent.

Could you test again with v3.0.8 and report if it still works? Then it probably is a qbt problem and not a chrome problem. Link to 3.0.8 -> http://sourceforge.net/projects/qbittorrent/files/qbittorrent-win32/qbittorrent-3.0.8/qbittorrent_3.0.8_setup.exe/download

Ok, removed 3.09. Put 3.08 back on. Bingo, magnet links work perfectly
now. Definitely must be a bug preventing magnet links working properly in
3.09.
Let me know when bug fixed and I will upgrade, thanks

I had the same problem when I installed v3.0.9 on windows 7, magnets links and torrent association too didn't work at first. I just had to restart windows and they all worked again.

commented Mar 31, 2013

Thanks, I tried restarting, no go. Back on 3.08 for now with everything
working again. I will just wait for next updated version to give it a shot.

I just checked on WinXP with Chrome 26.0.1410.43 m and magnet links work.

Could this be a Windows 7 UAC issue? When I upgraded to v3.0.9, windows installed under administrator, but I am normally logged in as the Limited/standard account. When I first tried a magnet link, it did not work.
In qBittorrent, I went to
Tools->Options->Behavior-> Checked 'use qBittoret for magnet links'
This fixed the file association issue I had in Win7.

Devs, did you make any changes to UAC between 3.08 and 3.09? Bigghands may be experiencing a different issue, but this fixed it for me.

I had this same issue on Win7 with Firefox (nightly). I just got around to upgrading to 3.0.9 and immediately noticed magnet links weren't working. I had chosen to associate qBittorrent with torrents and magnet links inside the installer (the installer was given admin permission through the UAC dialog at start). qBittorrent's settings in options were already checked and Firefox's options said torrents and magnet links were set up to use qBittorrent.

In my case, it seems unassociating magnet links in Firefox and then clicking one to get the dialog box to pop up asking what to do with the link and using that to reassociate worked. There was a lot of fumbling around trying to fix it, so maybe it wasn't actually that, though.

I experienced the same problem now that I updated to 3.0.10. Checking/Unchecking the associations on the options panel wasn't doing anything. But leaving them unchecked and restarting qBittorrent so that I got the pop-up asking about the associations and selecting the option to have qBittorrent add the associations seemed to have fixed it. On another computer I had to do the same thing but also run it as an administrator for it to take.

commented Jul 14, 2013

That's because file associations modify the registry. Only admins can do that.

commented Jul 20, 2013

I've had the same trouble with 3.0.10; I've tried unchecking the magnet links option, closing qBt, and restarting elevated, which I've confirmed does make the registry entries down in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/Magnet, but I still can't get magnet links to work. I also tried pasting one in quotes as the first and only argument on the command line but still nothing. Will update if I get this working.

Magnet links #796

commented Jan 8, 2014

I have similar bug, when I click a Magnet torrent link it adds it correctly to the qbittorrent window, but when I click another Magnet torrent link it won't add it to the qbittorrent window at all, instead it causes qbittorrent window hang and it becomes unresponsive and soon it will crash the whole app, when re-opened qbittorrent window and trying to re-add that another Magnet torrent link it becomes unresponsive yet again and it will crash the app.

Looks like you cannot add 2 magnet torrent links there at the same time, it will crash the app.

I have the latest 3.1.4 version of qbittorrent and the latest Chromium 34. Also running Windows 7 x64.

Works correctly btw when using BitTorrent and uTorrent and Vuze.
